WEEN, Barrel Magazine, and UCMP joined forces to celebrate the outstanding achievements of women in oil and gas, honouring 20 trailblazing females under 40 at the 9th Oil and Gas Convention, 2024. The ceremony was a memorable night recognising the groundbreaking contributions of women transforming the energy industry. Hon. Ruth Nankabirwa Ssentamu, Minister of Energy and Mineral Development and Patron of WEEN, officiated the ceremony.
A collaborative effort between WEEN and the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) brought together industry leaders, professionals and stakeholders to address critical issues facing women in the energy sector. The forum focused on students, giving them insights into the sector, its challenges, and how to navigate a male-dominated industry.
Participation in the Oil and Gas Convention organised by the Uganda Chamber of Mines and Petroleum (UCMP) provided WEEN with a platform to engage in meaningful dialogue and collaboration with industry stakeholders through a notable panel discussion on “Advancing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the Oil and Gas Industry.” Hon. Ruth Nankabirwa Ssentamu was one of the key speakers.
The inaugural meeting of WEEN's Board of Trustees took place on 4 April 2024. The Board Chair, Eng. Irene Pauline Batebe, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development, presided over the meeting. Ms. Grace Nakku Matovu, Ms. Proscovia Nabbanja and Ms. Doreen Kabasindi were present, alongside WEEN's Founding Members and Governing Council.
